Indian Red Cross Society awarded BITS Pilani for having providing maximum number of Voluntary Blood Donors amongst educational institutions of the country during the year 2008-9. The Award was presented at a function held at the headquarters of the Indian Red Cross Society in Delhi on the occasion of Voluntary Blood Donation Day on 1st October 2009. It was presented by Dr Salim J Habayeb, Indian Representative of World Health Organization who was the Chief Guest on the occasion.
The award was received by NSS Coordinator Prof Vimal Bhanot and Prof N V M Rao, Dean, Student Welfare of the university.
NSS Unit of the Institute has been organizing the Blood Donation Day for the past 28 years in the month of March in association with Indian Red Cross Society. Speaking at the NSS Office at BITS, the Coordinator, Prof Vimal Bhanot said, “Institute promotes the noble cause as both students and faculty members have been contributing blood every year. It is their enthusiastic participation which drives us conduct the Blood Donation camp every year”. Besides students and staff, many family members also have been contributing blood every year, said Prof Bhanot.
